Questions & Answers

Have there been any changes to the app launching/virtualizing screen in 2.11?

No changes in 2.11. The app launching screen is part of the AppsAnywhere Client. There was a slight style update in a recent version, but the process and messaging are the same.

We do not have AppsAnywhere yet is it fully cloud-based?

you are able to deploy AppsAnywhere into your own datacenter, or a private, public, or hybrid cloud of your choice. AppsAnywhere supports deployment to all the major Cloud platforms and providers, including Azure and AWS...Bring your own cloud! We can also work with other hosting providers to offer a solution for you. Our sales team can connect you with one of our Solutions Architects who will be happy to explain the infrastructure and discuss your needs. The requirements are remarkably light, especially when compared with VDI.

Can Adobe products be used?

Yes, we provide the Adobe suite ready-to-deploy as part of our Packaging Service at a special bundle price.

As a new customer, in POC, do we get 2.11?

Yes, please ask your Implementation Consultant to ensure you are deploying AppsAnywhere 2.11 (or to arrange the upgrade for you). We’d love you to try our latest version!

What about different languages concerning the App Descriptions?

Currently, the description text is not translated though we hope to offer this feature in the future. Some customers simply add both languages to the description.

Is it possible to deliver Windows applications to e.g. Linux OS users?

Yes, our non-Windows add-on uses Parallels Remote Application Server to deliver Windows apps to non-Windows devices. Our seamless integration supports a single-click launch within any HTML5 browser. Click Launch -> new browser tab opens -> app appears! Parallels RAS also has clients for a wide range of devices to provide an enriched experience.

Are Autodesk applications supported by app licensing?

Not as yet though we are hoping this might be possible in the next 12 months. AutoDesk licensing is particularly complex due to the way that the license files are cumulative and require the latest version of shared licensing components between all AutoDesk apps. We find that most customers have specific requirements for the configuration and combination of these apps.

Are Microsoft Office products already packaged if a school's license supports it?

We recommend deploying Microsoft Office apps natively on campus as they receive Microsoft updates and are often used in every login session. AppsAnywhere can detect locally installed apps so they can still be launched via the AppsAnywhere portal. If students on a BYOD device do not have Office installed, the launch button can automatically take the user to Office365 where they can use the apps online or install them.

Where would be the best place to make feature requests for future versions of AA?

This is best done via our Community Forum.

Specifically for SPSS do you support both license server and license key installations?

We only have the license server version at the moment (the other app on the slides was SPSS AMOS). It might well be possible to automate the license key version too. Please feel free to put in that request and we’ll try to do this for you.

Are custom banners still available in the new UI?

Yes, indeed. They appear at the top of the page or down the side as before.

Is the license automation only suitable for packages created by AppsAnywhere?

Yes, we provide the applications ready-to-deploy. You can also request additional apps via our Packaging Service and if they are compatible, we provide them free of charge.

Does the licensing feature work as well without Cloudpaging?

Automated app licensing only works with Cloudpaged apps.

What kind of app licenses are supported? What are some of the limitations?

To automatically license an app, it must be possible to activate a new license post-installation. We are finding the most success with applications that store the license key or license server address in a file or registry key, where it can subsequently be changed. Apps that provide a command line license activation method also have a high success rate.

Internet activated SPSS: Can a script run pre-launch to determine if it needs to perform an internet-based activation on the "local" machine?

We only have the network license server version of SPSS at the moment. However, it is quite likely we’d be able to automate the activation of an internet-based license too. Please feel free to submit a request to our packaging team and we’ll try to do this for you.

Is it working on all browsers?

Yes, AppsAnywhere works with all major HTML5 compatible browsers.

What is the deployment strategy of the client (Cloudpaging player)?

On ‘managed’ machines AppsAnywhere Client and Cloudpaging Player can be pre-installed with an MSI and pre-configured. BYOD users are prompted to install the AppsAnywhere Client on first use. This is a simple install, after which the client will install any other required clients such as Cloudpaging Player automatically for the user. AppsAnywhere Client will also update itself and any other required clients automatically to the versions that you specify in AppsAnywhere admin – thus you also have full control over the deployment to BYO devices and versions used.
